Assessment of the current Institutional Setup
Assessment activities are an integral component in establishing a computerized mineral tenure management system. The results of the assessments support the understanding of the current situation and enable GAF’s consultants to define the most suitable approach for integrating the system into your organization and the existing infrastructure.
The main assessment activities provided by GAF include:
ICT assessment - covers all aspects relating to the current IT infrastructure e.g. desktop computers, workstations, servers, peripheral devices, GIS software, database management systems, domain setup, networking, Internet connectivity, etc.; quantitative and qualitative aspects are evaluated for the implementation of the eMC+ software platform.
Human resources - focuses on the staff involved in the operation and maintenance of the cadaster, including users/clerks, management staff, IT administrators, etc. The assessment aims to identify existing skills and training needs in order to ensure the successful implementation and sustainable operation of the system.
Data analysis - involves the identification, collection and quality assessment of relevant mineral tenure data (spatial and alphanumeric) and the procedures and tools required for the data verification and validation activities.
Data Consolidation and Migration
Decisions and approvals are made every day within a Mining Cadaster, and these decisions must be based on good accessibility to high quality data. Without access to the right information, decisions can have significant, adverse social and economic effects.
Data consolidation refers to the collection and integration of mineral tenure data from different sources to create a single data repository. A second aspect of data consolidation is the verification of the tenure data and the harmonization of analog and digital information to achieve a high level of data quality.
The data migration related services provided by GAF focus on two key aspects of mineral tenure data:
- Helping your organization in consolidating relevant data
- Ensuring a smooth transition of the cadastral data to the eMC+ data storage platform
